Divergence a 10 Year Phenomenon
Divergence: it’s
an event that we have discussed both on Radio Zapata George and in our
monthly letters. However, I feel it is really important that everyone
understand what is meant by divergence, so let me reiterate.
In the markets there are trends which coincide, and there are trends which move apart from one another, or diverging. These are the ones that we’re interested in. Let me give you an example: when the price of energy rises, that should make it difficult on the economy, and therefore it should make it difficult upon the stock market and its averages. If you increase the cost of everything, which is what happens when the cost of energy cost rises, that makes it more difficult to make money, earnings suffer and consequently, stock averages suffer...
